Vacancy: Technical Designer

A great opportunity has arisen to join our family-run playground manufacturing company in York. Playscheme are looking to create a brand new post as a Technical Designer. The position would suit an experienced CAD Technician, self-motivated, good time management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines. You will be responsible for generating detailed manufacturing and installation drawings for specific projects, liaising with other departments including the Design and Workshop team and scheduling the required materials for the project. You will be reporting to our Production Manager in the office who will be responsible for your work load and development. Duties will include:

  • Production of detailed CAD drawings
  • Preparation of component schedules
  • Working closely with other departments (external and internal)
  • Complying with ISO 9001 practices and procedures following guidance from your line manager

The candidate must:

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate well both written and verbally
  • Be hard working and committed
  • Demonstrate good attention to detail
  • Be good at meeting deadlines
  • Provide their own transport (no public transport or suitable cycling roads)
  • Have a practical background
  • Be able to contribute in design meetings


  • Have experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar
  • Experience of Public Sector Tenders.
  • Knowledge of ground works and European Safety Standard for Playground Equipment EN1176 and safety surfacing EN1177
  • Experience of onsite surveying and product testing
  • Joinery knowledge
  • Knowledge of SAGE Quotation/Bill of Materials software (Training will be provided)

This is a full-time, permanent position and hours are generally 08:30 to 17:00. Salary: £19k - £21k depending on experience Playscheme install equipment all over the country creating custom made play schemes that are imaginative, exhilarating and educational.
