Great news! Playscheme are taking part in the very first Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge in York. On Sunday 28th August we will head down to Micklegate to take on our competitors in a bid to win the well-sought after title and stand tall as champions. The Mickelgate Run Soapbox Challenge is chalked up to be a hilarious go-cart race down York's finest street and fifty teams from all over Britain, including us, will race home-made soapbox carts down the steep cobbles of Micklegate, from the top at the Bar to the River Ouse. We have entered a four-strong team known as Play-Mobile, made up of John Heaver and Steve Paylor as pushing power, and Jonny Comito and Graham Swales as our speed-demon drivers. Behind the scenes there is also a team of people looking at vital factors such as aerodynamics, suspension design, braking systems, and an ejector seat; as well as decoration and safety. As well as being extremely good fun, we are also putting in the efforts to raise money for a charity close to our hearts named Safe and Sound Homes (SASH), who help homeless 16-25 year olds in York, North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire. SASH is also our chosen charity for the whole of 2016 and we will be supporting them throughout the year. SASH's mission statement is 'Preventing Youth Homelessness Together' and are helped by a number of people who they call their volunteer 'hosts'. These hosts are ordinary people who have a spare room and want to help make a difference to a young person in their community. Working together with their hosts, they make sure that young people can continue their education or work, even if they have lost their homes. Of course we are very excited to take part in this challenge, and the design and build is probably going to be the best bit for us! We wish everyone good luck in the competition, but we believe we'll be pretty hard to beat with the soapbox we have already sketched up... See you there!
