Here at Playscheme, we're not all about adventure trails and play towers, we also like getting stuck into the cuter, and more out of the ordinary projects, too. Here's a couple of fairytale play schemes we have designed, built and installed recently...
As part of our Forest School developments, we like to think outside of the box and create imaginative and magical play spaces for children; something a little different to the traditional playground settings. Kids love to take themselves off to an imaginary world for an hour or so, role-playing that they are the King of the castle or setting up tea parties for the teddy bears picnic. What better way to allow them to do this, than to incorporate one of our special, bespoke playhouses into your playground?
You can even go one step further and help set the scene by creating the perfect environment for make-believe play. Just like Yearsley Grove Primary School in Huntington, York did with their very own Secret Garden!
We designed this beautiful Forest School development for Yearsley Grove Primary School, which is like their own mini Secret Garden which incorporates a resource Forest Cottage, Bird Station, Bug Hotel and tree trunk stumps for seating. A paradise for the young ones!
The Forest Cottage itself is a 3m x 2.4m shelter with a 1.6m x 1.2m entrance hall. It has a life-like peaked roof covered in shingles, which creates a quaint woodland effect. The top of the walls where the roof peaks have been filled with Perspex to allow light into the playhouse to illuminate everything. Inside there is space for the children to hand up their coats by the door, then peek through the bird watching window into the garden outside. There is one single door into the playhouse, with double doors opening out at the back to create a natural flow through from the front to the back. All of these doors are lockable to keep the building safe at night.
We also created a similar cottage play hut with veranda for Sacred Heart RC Primary School where we incorporated this into their playground plans. This entire project also included a nature area with bird station and bug hotel, role play area with stage, and a water and sand area.
Again, this cottage playhouse is the ideal place for young children to spend their time role-playing inside, with a safe place to take shelter from the rain. It can also be used as an outdoor classroom to study on hot days.
The cottage play hut has a barrel board door, green board roof and perspex windows to let the natural light in. Leading up to the play house is also a Breedon Gravel Pathway which has a timber perimeter. Here it is in the workshop, all ready to go!
