The Vikings are coming! And they’ve arrived at Sheringham Play Area
We recently completed a fantastically creative project for Norfolk District Council that drew on a couple of our previous projects, bringing together Vikings and boats once more!
We were asked to tender for the new fun installation for Sheringham Play Area and once we were chosen as the preferred supplier we couldn’t wait to get to work.
Our brief was to design a Viking-themed ship which would be suitable for 9-13-year-olds and which would have areas accessible for wheelchair users.
At Playscheme we approach each and every project very individually, but in the case of Sheringham Play Area we drew on a couple of similar projects, which had provided great examples as to what we could provide for Norfolk District Council.
Our brief was to to capture the remnants of a Viking shipwreck, with the large 2.4m high A frame style sail (with climbing grips and scramble net) disappearing beneath the ground.
The bow of the boat was to be the main focus of play and includes:
The dragon head detail was a great opportunity to make use of our new CNC router we had installed earlier in the year too!
In mid-December we worked with the team at Mitchell’s Haulage to take the ship on its maiden voyage to North Norfolk. The boat took to the air for a brief while before it was settled into place and secured to the HIAB low loader. Our team then completed the install just in time for Christmas!
We've loved drawing on previous experiences to develop this fantastic wooden Viking ship.
