The start of the new academic year marks the release of the latest Sports Premium funding for your school! But that's not the end of the good news, from this year the government has doubled the amount of funding available compared to last year!
So, it's time to take a look at spending your increased budget wisely, by truly transforming your outdoor space and in the process aiding the learning, development and sporting activities available to your pupils.
Following the introduction of the Sugar Tax earlier this year, the amount of premium sports funding available to schools for the current academic year has jumped from £160 million to £320 million. In late July, the Secretary of State for Education, Justine Greening, announced that all primary schools would see an increase in funding from this pot, with the government committing to the same levels of funding up until 2020.
Schools will receive funding based on the number of pupils between years 1 and 6. For the current year, schools will receive the following funding in two instalments:
While the Sports Premium is largely left to schools to decide how it's spent, the government does state that funding must be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport provided to children. Funding can be spent on such examples:
After reading the above government guidelines, it's clear that Sports Premium can be used to improve existing play areas and transform unused spaces, offering real opportunities for more pupils to take part in sport in the process! That's where Playscheme come in. With our experienced and highly-skilled workforce, we design, create and install bespoke play areas that can be home to a range of exercise, sports and fitness equipment. This presents opportunities for children to interact together and improve their confidence, co-ordination and overall physical fitness.
Our recent work designing and installing a multi-use games area at St. Augustine's Primary School in Gateshead is one such example. This space was previously an unused area of their school field, which following our work has been turned into a vibrant, all year round multi-use games area. This allows for a number of sports and activities to take place in one versatile space, ideal for encouraging participation, sparking interest and improving learning for children of all abilities.
We offer a full range of Di-bond sports panels that can enhance your outdoor space or sports area. These panels can be fixed to any surface or even installed free standing, allowing for ordinary playground to be turned into sporting arenas for students! A variety of games and targets can be included on these panels, ensuring there's fun for children of all abilities and interests!
We're more than happy to take on your ideas. If there's a sport or activity we've not got covered, let us know! The bespoke nature of our work allows us to modify and re-design these panels to suit the requirements of your area.
We can also create and install fitness equipment for your play area. This ranges from push up and chin up bars to sit up benches and hurdles. Each of these play a vital role in challenging pupils and developing body strength, with equipment also being customisable to meet varying abilities.
Trampolines can also be installed, offering a fun and exciting way for students to get active and competitive!
Another common installation is tower systems, climbing equipment and adventure trails. Such equipment is perfect for primary school environments and offer a safe, fun and brilliant way to encourage children to stretch themselves physically and gain confidence. Bouldering walls are another addition to your play area which can offer year-round use and activities for all. This can be installed as a stand alone piece or as part of a larger multi-court or activities area.
From forest climbers to towers and slides, we love to create play schemes that meet your requirements and perfectly match your surroundings. Adventure installations such as stepping stones and clatter bridges can help combine the landscape and environment, delivering fabulous design results in the process.
If you're looking to add something to an existing playground or combine something with your new, state of the art equipment, playground markings can brighten up dull and uninspiring surfaces while stimulating children to learn outdoors, remain active and play to rules!
Our playground markings are thermoplastic, offering a durability, toughness and longevity that outweighs spray painted markings.
We've hopefully given you some clarity on Sports Premium, as well as provided you with some ideas and inspiration on how to use your funding to introduce new sports and activities to your pupils!
