The Playscheme team attended the grand opening of Ulleskelf Parish Council Play Area in York last week, for which we designed, built and installed a bespoke adventure playground as part of the area's redevelopment plans. We won the project after getting involved with a grant scheme run by Yorventure, which is currently funding many environmental and community projects across York and North Yorkshire. Yorventure are a fantastic non-profit environmental body that distribute funds that are generated through the landfill operations of waste management, including the site at Harewood Whin near York.
The project itself was exciting, and one that the whole team were keen to get stuck into. And with input from them, we were able to create a truly bespoke experience for the children.
If you take a look at the before pictures below, you will see that the space was quite small and required a lot of work. However, this was not too difficult for us!
The play area features our bespoke Ramshamble Tower System, which is an organised shamble of equipment that has a platform to climb, crawl and traverse up to, and a slide to come down. It also features a higher platform with a peek through hole which adds opportunities for role play for younger children's engagement.
Ulleskelf Play Area has something for children of all ages, with a nest swing, clatter bridge and even flower talk tubes to interact with. Kids can role play with each other, using the special role play station with shop counters, which really will help them to build self confidence, social skills and spark their imaginations.
As well as the tailor-made wooden playground equipment, we also installed a see-saw swinger and swirl whirl spinner, which remain a firm favourite in most playgrounds.
With the help of our friends, Creative Groundworks Limited, we installed this masterpiece in three days, just in time for the opening on Friday, where families from around the area were invited to come and try out their new play area. Our very own Steve and John Danby attended the event and both agreed that it was such a wonderful experience to see the kids enjoying our creation.
Rachel Glynn, Councillor for Ulleskelf Parish Council said of their new playground, "On behalf of Ulleskelf Parish Council I would like to say a huge thank you to Playscheme. They listened to everything we wanted and created something very special for our village. The space was challenging but we really have maximised every inch. Playscheme were patient and worked with us to get the area just right and we still can't believe they got it installed so quickly. The opening was a huge success and I am sure we will work with them again in the near future. They are professional and a pleasure to work with. Thank you!"
We'd like to say a big thank you to Creative Groundworks Limited for giving us that helping hand to get this project finished on time and to the high standard that we always deliver. And, of course, we'd like to thank Ulleskelf Parish Council and Yorventure for letting us be a part of your vision and redevelopment of the area. Even though we only had a small amount of space to work with, we're sure you'll agree that we certainly made the most of it. The kids definitely did!
