Active, sharing, caring and nurturing play space for children

Case Study

Our Lady Mother of the Saviour Primary School, Runcorn

Playscheme, a leading provider of bespoke play solutions, collaborated with Kestrel Interiors, based in Manchester, to design and build a unique play area for Our Lady Mother of the Saviour Catholic Primary School in Runcorn, Cheshire.

This project aimed to create a vibrant and engaging space that aligned with the school’s values of activity, sharing, caring, and nurturing.

Understanding the Project

At Playscheme we were incredibly excited to embark on a design and build project at Our Lady Mother of the Saviour Catholic Primary School. The project, one of their largest to date of this type, presented an exciting opportunity to transform the school’s early years play area into a dynamic and imaginative space.

Partnership with Kestrel Interiors:

Earlier this year, Kestrel Interiors approached Playscheme with a vision for a special play space for young children. Recognising the potential for collaboration, Playscheme joined forces with Kestrel to bring this vision to life. Together, they aimed to create a play area that encouraged teamwork and reflected the school’s ethos.

Collaborative Planning and Design

Following discussions with Mark from Kestrel and consultations with Our Lady Mother of the Saviour Catholic Primary School, Playscheme crafted a comprehensive plan that incorporated bespoke elements from both companies. The design included a variety of fun equipment such as a water play system, a mud kitchen, a storytelling area, a rickety bridge, and a stage area with natural elements.

Innovative Features

One of the main focal points of the play area was Playscheme’s new range of tower systems, featuring wibbly wobbly timber for a rustic and natural appearance. Additionally, the play area included landscaping with artificial grass, seating areas, and a variety of thought-provoking elements like wigwam dens, weave frames, and a wormery for mini-beast investigations.

Construction and Implementation

Playscheme and Kestrel worked together to bring the design to fruition, utilizing a combination of materials such as woodchip, Wet pour rubber, and bonded mulch for all-weather surfaces. The incorporation of textured seating areas and landscaped mounds added depth and dimension to the play area, providing children with diverse experiences.

Impact and Reception

The completion of the play area was met with overwhelming joy from the school and its students. The children eagerly embraced the new space, finding endless opportunities for exploration, creativity, and fun. The school expressed their satisfaction, noting that the finished play area exceeded their expectations and provided an enriching environment for learning and play.

Conclusion

The collaboration between Playscheme and Kestrel Interiors resulted in the creation of a truly exceptional play area for Our Lady Mother of the Saviour Catholic Primary School. By combining expertise and creativity, the partners delivered a space that not only met but exceeded the school’s needs and aspirations. The project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in realizing shared visions and creating transformative environments for children.
